A Little About Me
Just over twenty years ago, I walked away from a career as a corporate accountant and management consultant—not because I wasn’t good at it, but because I could already feel the ceiling pressing down. The limitations. The lack of recognition. The way my contributions were praised in meetings but never truly rewarded.
I had a high hourly billable rate that made my employers a lot of money—but I saw only a fraction of the return. I wasn’t seen, heard, or valued in the way I deserved. And I know I’m not alone in that.
So I built something different. I launched my own boutique accounting and consulting firm because I knew I could do more—and do it on my own terms.
Then, ten years ago, I took things even further. I went fully remote, cut my overhead in half, and created the kind of flexibility traditional firms couldn’t offer.
Over time, I realized it wasn’t just the numbers I loved—it was the clarity that came from understanding them. The strategy behind them. The power in helping service providers build businesses that didn’t just look good on paper—but actually made money.
That realization led me to pivot into profit strategy coaching. And I haven’t looked back.
Where I Am Now
Today, I help Black women turn business plans into profits by teaching practical, profit-centered strategies rooted in clarity and financial confidence.
With over 20 years of experience in entrepreneurship, accounting, and business consulting, I’ve supported clients behind the scenes and on the front lines. Now, I coach women who are ready to stop overworking and start building something that’s truly theirs.
This isn’t about hustle for hustle’s sake. It’s about strategy, sustainability, and ownership. It’s about building a business that’s viable, profitable, and built to last.
But this work isn’t just professional—it’s deeply personal.
Why Black Women?
“The most disrespected person in America is the Black woman. The most unprotected person in America is the Black woman. The most neglected person in America is the Black woman.” — Malcolm X
Those words were spoken in 1962. And far too much of it still holds true.
As Black women, we show up, lead, contribute, and excel—yet we’re often undervalued, underpaid, and overlooked. We carry the weight of systems that were never built with us in mind. We navigate microaggressions, unrealistic expectations, and the pressure to prove our worth in spaces that don’t always recognize it.
I created A. Smith Strategies because I’ve lived it—and I know it doesn’t have to be this way.
It’s time for us to build income that reflects our experience, education, and expertise. Businesses that honor our values. Support that speaks our language. And strategies that lead to ownership—not just survival.
This isn’t about empowerment. We’ve always had the power. Now it’s time to build with it.
A Bit More Personal
I’m an introvert who thrives on deep, intentional connection. I’m also a dog-and-cat mom—Larry, my retired greyhound, is the king of naps, and Sasha, my tortoiseshell rescue, keeps things lively. I live a calm, quiet life filled with strong coffee, good books, and daydreams about where in the world I’ll work from next.
If you’re ready to take what you know and build something profitable, powerful, and truly yours—I’d love to help you get there.
