A Little About Me

Just over twenty years ago, I walked away from a job as a corporate accountant and management consultant—not because I wasn’t good at it, but because I could already feel the ceiling pressing down on me. The limitations. The lack of recognition. The way my contributions were praised in meetings but never truly rewarded.

I had a high hourly billable rate that made my employers lots of money—but I saw only a fraction of the benefit. I wasn’t seen, heard, or valued in the way I deserved. And I know I’m not alone in that.

So I started my own boutique accounting and consulting firm—because I knew I could do more, and do it on my own terms.

Then, 10 years ago, I took things even further. I took advantage of new technology and shifted to offering 100% remote services, which not only cut my overhead in half but gave me even more freedom by being able to work from anywhere in the world.

Over time, I realized it wasn’t just the numbers I loved—it was the strategy. The clarity. Helping other professional service providers create income that was actually theirs.

That realization led me to pivot into business strategy coaching for women professionals—and I haven’t looked back.

Where I Am Now

Today, I help Black women professionals build profitable online businesses rooted in their expertise—so they can break free from stifling workplaces and create income on their own terms.

With over 20 years of experience in entrepreneurship, financial management, and business consulting, I’ve supported countless clients behind the scenes. Now, I use that same knowledge to coach and guide women who are ready to stop overworking and start building something that belongs to them.

This isn’t about hustle for hustle’s sake. It’s about strategy. Profitability. And building a business that gives you the freedom, flexibility, and stability that traditional employment rarely delivers.

But this work isn’t just professional—it’s personal.

Why Black Women?

“The most disrespected person in America is the Black woman. The most unprotected person in America is the Black woman. The most neglected person in America is the Black woman.” — Malcolm X

Those words were spoken in 1962. And far too much of it still holds true.

As Black women, we show up, lead, contribute, and excel—yet we’re often undervalued, underpaid, and overlooked. We carry the weight of systems that were never designed for us. We navigate microaggressions, unrealistic expectations, and the constant pressure to prove our worth in spaces that don’t always recognize it.

I created A. Smith Strategies because I know what that feels like—and I know it doesn’t have to be this way.

It’s time for us to build income that reflects our education, experience, skills, and expertise. Businesses that honor our values. Support that speaks our language. And strategies that lead to ownership, not just survival.

This isn’t about empowerment. We’ve always had the power. Now it’s time to build with it.

A Bit More Personal

I’m an introvert who thrives on deep, intentional connections. I’m also a dog-and-cat mom—Larry, my retired greyhound, is the king of naps, and Sasha, my tortoiseshell rescue, keeps things lively. I live a calm, quiet life with strong coffee, good books, and occasional daydreams about where in the world I’ll work from next.

If you’re ready to take what you know and build something of your own—something powerful, profitable, and truly yours—I’d love to help you get there.

"My mission is to use my entrepreneurial experience, financial management skills, and deep understanding of business strategy to help Black women professionals transition out of traditional 9-to-5 work environments that undervalue their contributions and constrain their potential—by monetizing their skills, knowledge, and expertise to build profitable online businesses that allow them to grow professionally with ownership, autonomy, and purpose."
